Rosalind's Drabble Challenge - Part 3

Rosalind changed up my prompts in Part 2; now I have an extra challenge by having 3 word prompts!

Prompts: painting, watch, gossip

It wasn’t something Poe would have expected Jedi training to include. However, Leia was insistent, and Rey didn’t argue.

She set up a tripod stand, a canvas made of fabric, some colorful liquid pigment, and a small brush. Leia said it would help her focus and notice details better, as well as teach her patience.

Poe loved to watch Rey, who was actually quite good. Somehow, she managed to create a dozen shades of green, bringing the painting to life.

“People will gossip,” she told him once with a grin. “You watching me all the time.”

Poe winked. “Let them.”

Prompts: intimacy, kitchen, honesty

In all honesty, Rey had never believed she’d have her own home. After growing up in foster houses, she never let herself become attached to any one place. As an adult, she had rented, expecting to be single and alone in temporary miniscule apartments for the rest of her life.

Never had she imagined a house of her own, shared with a man who she trusted to remain faithful to the vows he had spoken not so long ago. Tonight, as she let herself revel in the intimacy of cooking with Poe in their shared kitchen, she felt immense gratitude.

Prompts: beer, crime, dog

“Watch this!” Poe grins. “Beebee, fridge.” He gestured toward the refrigerator.

Rey watched as Poe’s Boder Collie went into the kitchen, pulled on a rope tied to the refrigerator handle to open it, then reached in and grabbed a can with his mouth. He brought the beverage to Poe.

Rey was impressed, but she couldn’t help but tease. “You trained your dog to fetch beer? What a crime.”

Poe laughed. “He’ll bring out whatever is on the bottom shelf. It just happens to be beer today.” He handed the can to Rey, then cued Beebee again to grab him another.

Prompts: money, car, hell

“Buying a new car when you have very little money is hell.”

Poe laughed at Rey’s words, but he couldn’t deny them. It was their first major purchase together as a married couple, and at the moment money was tight. Poe was looking for a new job, having just left the military, and Rey was a teacher, making only 50k a year. Poe knew once he found a position as a private pilot, their finances would get better, but for now they would take it one day at a time. At least they had each other.

And a new car.

Prompts: locket, death, cave

My Best Friend's Weddings Rey and Poe visit a place they used to play as children

“How long has it been?” Rey swung the beam of her flashlight around the cave.

“Since before High School,” Poe answered. “At least I don’t remember ever coming here once I had a car.”

Rey nodded. “I remember that time we saw that huge spider,” she smiled. “I was scared to death!”

Poe laughed, but then his eye caught something sparkling in his flashlight. “What’s that?” He moved over to it and grabbed up what looked like a necklace.

“My locket!” Rey exclaimed. “I lost that years ago!”

Poe handed it to her. “What once was lost…”

“…now is found.”

Prompts: sacrifice, star, boat

“So, who did you sacrifice to get this?” Rey asked jokingly as she looked up at Poe from her seat on the starboard side of the boat.

Poe laughed as he piloted the Shooting Star. “I borrowed it from a friend,” he told her. He knew how much Rey loved being on the water, so for this, their third date, he had managed to talk Snap into letting him take the little yacht out for the day.

“Well, I think you should get your own,” Rey said. “You look like you belong here, Captain Dameron.”

“As do you,” he replied.

Prompts: faith, coffee, village

“It takes a village,” Rey muttered to herself as she poured a cup of coffee, looking out the window into the backyard. Of course, she didn’t bother to complete the proverb since she wasn’t referring to a human child.

Snap, Karè, Dev, Jess, and Finn were all surrounding her husband Poe as he stood holding a wriggling Corgi puppy, oooohing and ahhhing at the excited BB’s antics. Rey knew their friends would be a huge part of this young dog’s life, and she had to have faith the little furball wouldn’t grow up spoiled.

Doubtful, she thought with a smile.

Prompts: delight, anger, luck

It was not easy to anger Rey. Even during her worst days on Jakku, when Plutt was being odious, she never lost her temper. If there was one person who could raise her ire, it was Poe Dameron.

She didn’t know what it was about him that brought about such ferocity in her, but the people that knew him best often commented, with great delight, that they rarely saw him as agitated as he was around her.

But such intensity could swing both ways, and with luck, she and Poe could turn their passionate arguments into something far more pleasurable.

Prompts: rabbit, comfort, burial

Some of Rey’s favorite moments happened when they simply cuddled and talked, telling each other stories.

“I had a pet rabbit when I was about five,” Poe told her on one of these nights. “Sprocket. He died suddenly. No reason. It was the first time something I loved had died. My mom gave him an official burial, a real funeral. It was such a comfort. She was amazing.”

“I know,” Rey responded. When Poe looked at her questioningly, she said, “Your dad told me you take after her, so of course she was amazing.”

Poe smiled and held her closer.

Prompts: despair, moth, pipe

Rey ran through the burned trees, tendrils of darkness wrapping around her, the wind cold. Smoke filled the air, smelling like a t’bac pipe. She looked about her, panic filling her. She didn’t know the way out!

“Rey!” A voice called, and she turned, hope pushing through the despair.

“Poe?” she cried.

“I’m here!” She could see a dark silhouette holding out a hand.

She rushed toward the shadow, focused on it like a moth to a flame, reaching for his hand.

Rey woke. She was in bed, Poe’s arms wrapped around her tightly. It had only been a dream.
