In Velvet

Rey and Poe try their best to not insult their host.

Pentadrabble

Prompt: Cozy

“Well, this is cozy.”

Rey gave Poe a glare, recognizing the sarcasm in his words, then glanced back at the female Drall who had led them to the little room they were supposed to spend the night in. She was cackling softly to herself as she walked away.

Rey turned back to face the room. To say it was tiny was an understatement. The bed took up more than three-quarters of the space, and was pushed back into the wall of the cave-like room.

“I suppose I could just go sleep on the Falcon,” Poe continued.

Rey shook her head. “That would insult our host,” she determined. Rey had studied up on the species during the trip.

“You’re the boss,” Poe mumbled.

“Well, we’re just sleeping,” she said softly. “It’s not like we need a lot of room.” She moved further into the space, toeing her boots off as she did so and began to unbuckle her holster.

With a sigh, Poe followed her in and the door closed behind him. He turned to sit on the bed and removed his boots, then stood again to remove his weapon.

Rey climbed into the bed, laying down facing the wall. She felt him crawl in behind her. For several long minutes she just listened to him breath, then she flopped on her back, staring at the ceiling. It was decorated with a lovely mosaic, she realized. Once more she turned, restless, this time facing Poe’s back.

“Rey?” he grumbled.

“Sorry,” she apologized.

Her eyes were drawn to his thick hair and the way it curled.

He sighed. “I can hear you thinking,” he told her. “What are you thinking?”

Taking a deep breath, she said, “I was wondering if your hair is as soft as it looks.”

He pushed himself up and turned over to face her. “Why don’t you find out?” he whispered.

Licking her lips, she brought her hand up to run her fingers through his hair. He closed his eyes and hummed. “Well?” he asked softly.

“It is,” she whispered back. “What are you thinking?”

He opened his eyes. “I’m wondering if your lips are as soft as they look,” he said.

“Why don’t you find out?” Rey said, her voice catching a bit.

He obliged, moving forward and touching his lips to hers. Though brief, the contact was thrilling, and Rey felt her lips part instinctively. Poe accepted the invitation, dipping his tongue into her mouth. The feeling was unbelievable.

He pulled back far too soon.

“Well?” Rey asked huskily.

Eyes hooded, Poe said, “I think I need more practice before I make a conclusion.”

Rey smiled. “Have at it.”

“I don’t know,” he said, suddenly unsure. “What if this is considered an insult to our host?”

“Uhm, how do you know this wasn’t her intent?” Rey countered. “I think it would be an insult to just sleep.”

Poe’s lips curved up in a wry smile. “You’re the boss,” he whispered, then moved in for more practice.
