Beg, Borrow, or Steal – Part 2

Rey and Poe go undercover together to try and recover several stolen lightsabers from the nephew of the infamous General Grievous.

Damerey Creations Week - Day Three

Prompt: Canon AU "I have a bad feeling about this."

Poe really needed to get control of himself.

They had worked for two weeks to prepare for this mission, and if he didn’t stop getting distracted by his partner, he was going to ruin everything. Of course, if he really thought about it, staring at her like he had been doing was only making their cover more believable.

Poe and Rey had arrived on Kalee early yesterday morning under the names Zandav Perolle and Reilgin Shonarr, a wealthy industrialist from Neskar and his mistress. As lead on this mission, Poe had come up with their cover story, and Leia had approved it before their departure, but Poe couldn’t help but remember the discussion he and Rey had had about it while en route to Kalee.

“I really think it would be more believable if I went in as your daughter,” Rey had blurted out nervously.

Poe had looked at her, wide-eyed. “Do you really think I’m that old?” he’d sputtered.

Rey turned to him, her expression shocked. “No!” she denied. “I know you’re not! But with the grey hairs in your beard, you look older, and I just don’t see how anyone would believe a rich, handsome man like you would want a desert rat as his mistress.”

After he pushed away the ‘she thinks I’m handsome?’ thought, Poe realized why she had requested the change. She didn’t think he was too old; she thought she wasn’t pretty enough. Well, he had to fix that.

“Rey, I don’t think anyone is going to disbelieve that a young, sexy woman like you is somebody’s mistress.” He winced, wondering if he had gone too far and expecting her to get offended by his words.

Instead, she had turned away, her face beet red. Then she had mumbled that she had to get ready for the meeting with Dhilnaen jai Sheelal. Poe knew she had been getting lessons from Rose about how to fix her hair and put on makeup for this mission and he admitted he was rather excited to see her all ‘dolled up.’ Rey was an amazingly beautiful woman without any enhancement, so he was very curious to see how different she looked ‘in disguise.’

Different had been an understatement. While his full beard was more than enough to keep him from looking like Poe Dameron, Rey’s generous use of kohl and lip color, as well as her hair styled in soft looking waves around her face, insured no one would recognize her as Rey from Jakku, the scavenger the current Supreme Leader was obsessed with.

They had arrived on Kalee at their appointed time and met with the nephew of the Kaleeshan legend General Grievous. As expected, the man was not at all interested in selling his lightsaber collection. After almost an hour of negotiating, the most Poe got out of the situation was an invitation to a party that evening where they would be able to see the fifteen lightsabers on display.

Begging and asking to borrow hadn’t worked, so that left one more option.

Back at their ship, Beau’s little cruiser The Chronicler, Rey and Poe finalized their next plan.

Now, here they were, preparing to go to Dhilnaen’s party, and Poe couldn’t stop staring at his partner.

She was dressed in a slinky black metallic dress, her hair and face made up even more than during their meeting earlier today, wearing shoes that made her taller than him (which didn’t take much, he had to admit). He had never seen Rey with so much skin showing. Both arms were bare of the wraps she usually wore, and one shoulder was exposed all the way to her collarbone. Her midriff on the opposite side was also bare, and a slit in the skirt showed plenty of leg when she walked. His eyes kept drifting to the bare skin on her waist, wondering if it was as soft as it looked.

He straightened the jacket on the far-too-expensive black suit with the long, voluminous cape he was wearing and cleared his throat. He needed to get his act together. It wasn’t that he hadn’t known how beautiful and sexy Rey was, it was the fact that he had never seen her like this before. Not only did she look and smell amazing, but she was cool, calm, and collected. It was as if she was made for undercover work.

Damn, she was going to be an awesome Jedi.

They arrived at the party fashionably late, and Poe couldn’t help but smile as he saw all eyes turn to them. He wasn’t above admitting that the two of them together, dressed to kill, made quite the sight.

They mingled, they chatted, they wandered to the back room to look at the lightsaber exhibit, Poe displaying resigned sadness that he couldn’t buy them all, then they went back out into the main room to mingle some more.

“Okay,” Poe finally told Rey. “Everyone is sufficiently drunk, there are only two guards by the display. Time for your distraction.”

Rey nodded, looking nervous for the first time tonight. “Are you sure this is going to work? I have a bad feeling about this.”

“Trust me,” he told her. “It’ll work.”

Taking a deep breath, Rey left him and wandered over to the musicians who had been playing soft music all evening. She stumbled a bit and giggled, giving every appearance of being tipsy, then leaned in to the Sarkan band leader and whispered something to it. The huge headed alien nodded enthusiastically, and the group started with a playful song from some unknown world that had become popular about ten standard years ago. With a huge smile, Rey stood straight and began to sing along with the song.

It didn’t take long for everybody in the room to turn toward her with interest.

Her voice was powerful and deep, and she sang with energy and emotion. Poe couldn’t help but smile. He had known she had an amazing voice, but this was the first time he had seen her let it all out.

As she finished the first song, she turned to the Sarkan again, suggesting another one. Again, the band began to play, this time a softer, moodier tune. Rey’s ethereal voice began to attract everyone in the room, and they all drifted closer, intent on this beautiful new entertainer. Poe let himself drift the opposite direction, casually eyeing everyone around him, including the two Kaleeshan guards who had left their post to watch Rey in fascination.

Without any fuss, Poe slid back into the now empty display room. Pulling out the little blocking device that Rose had devised several months ago, he turned it on and set it on the table by the display. It blinked red at him, then turned green. Glancing back over his shoulder, he pulled off the glass cover of the display, knowing the alarm was temporarily disabled. Quickly, he pulled the pack hanging at his back under his cloak out and hastily grabbed up the lightsabers, placing them in the bag. He tucked it back under his cape once done, replaced the glass, turned off the blocker, and pressed a separate button. The holo he had taken surreptitiously earlier in the evening now covered the display. The ruse wouldn’t be hard to see up close, but hopefully it wouldn’t be noticed right away. His heart racing, he soothed himself with the sound of Rey’s perfect voice still emanating from the other room. Glancing around to ensure he hadn’t forgotten anything, he walked back to the door, slipping behind the guards who were still watching Rey intently. He moved to the outer door, then looked at Rey, making eye contact with her and nodding slightly. He turned and left just as she stopped singing suddenly.

“Oh, dear,” she gasped, then giggled. “I think I drank too much! You’ll have to excuse me!”

He heard the crowd applaud and knew she was heading his way.

Poe exited the building and walked toward the first speeder he saw. He slid in as if it was his and quickly began to hotwire it. Rey suddenly slid in next to him, breathless and on edge. He glanced at her, his gaze landing on her bare midriff again, then focused on the vehicle, feeling his face heat. His heart was still racing. Finally, the speeder started. He sat up and they both glanced at the still quiet front entrance as Poe drove away. He picked up speed, and soon they were on their way to the docking bay The Chronicler was parked in. He was just waiting for alarms to sound behind them, but the night remained quiet.

Rey was looking at him, her expression anxious, but she stayed silent.

Finally, they pulled up at the bay. Without waiting, they jumped out and headed for the door, Poe punching in the code as fast as he could. Once the door was open, they both ran for the ship. They worked together to start the warm-up procedure. Poe ran calculations on a hyperspace route while Rey checked the local reports. Nothing yet. Soon, they were lifting off, Poe not bothering to ask permission from flight control.

The radio lit up with shouts from officials, but Poe knew Kalee had minimal planetary defenses, so he was not worried. Soon after, even more alarms and shouts rose from the speakers, demanding they return. There had been a theft. No ships were allowed to leave the planet. Poe was almost out of atmo by that time.

“Too bad, so sad!” he crowed as the ship sped away from Kalee.

Rey snorted.

Poe punched in the last command for coordinates and they came on screen. He looked at his partner. “Ready?”

Smiling, she replied, “Ready.”

Together, they pushed the lever and entered hyperspace.

Once the ship was securely in hyperspace, they both fell back into their chairs. Rey began giggling madly. “I can’t believe we did it!”

Poe stood, throwing off his cape and pulling out the bag. Rey jumped up to peer inside.

“Wow!” she smiled.

Poe grinned back, nodding.

“Now what?” Rey asked.

Poe’s grin only got bigger. “We’re taking them to a very safe place to stay hidden until the war is over.” Setting the bag of lightsabers aside, he sat back in the pilot’s seat. “I know you love green, Rey, and you’re about to get a lot of it.

“We’re going home.”

THE END?

Ooops! Did I just leave an opening for a part three? I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

Part 3 is up!
